What to Expect at One of My Workshops

30 April 2026

Shearing scene — watercolour painting by Julia Harris, Welsh artist

I hear it every week: "I can't draw." And every week, by the end of the session, the person who said it is holding something they made and smiling at it.

Arriving

Sessions run on Tuesdays and Saturdays, 10:30am to 1pm at Abercrave Welfare Hall. There's no need to bring anything — all materials are provided, from paper and brushes to watercolours and acrylics. There's also a cup of tea or coffee waiting for you.

Getting started

We begin gently. I'll talk through the subject for the session and demonstrate a few key techniques — things like water control, how to mix colours without muddying them, and how to approach a composition without overthinking it.

During the session

I move around the room and work with everyone individually. No one is left to struggle in silence. If something isn't working, we look at it together. There are no mistakes — only things we learn from.

By the end

You'll leave with something you made. It might surprise you. People regularly tell me they didn't think they could do it, and then they do.

Sessions book up about a month ahead. Get in touch if you'd like to reserve a place.
